Sources for studying the history of
the village of Randwick, Gloucestershire

Welcome to the Home Page of Randwick Sources. I hope that if you have an interest in the village you will find something useful here. Please explore the site and bookmark it if it is of value.

At last, I have added some new content.
You will now find the Baptisms and Burials from 1663.
There is a gap in the registers from 1681 until 1726.
I have filled the gap with Bishops Transcripts.
There is a letter in Glos Archives referring to this
missing register dated in mid 19th century.

I have now added transcripts of the Bishop's Transcripts (BTs) from 1661 to 1762. I hope this will fill in the gaps of the missing registers.(July 2012)

Introduction

These pages contain a collection of sources which should be of interest to anyone studying the history of the village, or to anyone tracing ancestors who may have lived there. The sources are those which may be difficult or even impossible to find elsewhere. There are also links to other web sites which may be useful.

Probably, the most useful will be the Parish register transcripts. I have attempted to include all the information which is available in the registers. In addition to the usual baptisms, marriages and burials, I have included the Banns register which gives clues to those few marriages which took place elsewhere.

The register entry for names often show a variation in spelling of surnames, whilst retaining the spelling found in the registers I have also "standardised" spellings which makes finding families much easier. The same system also applies to Banns, Marriage and Burial Registers.

In addition you will find a full transcription of E.P. Fennemore's "A History of Randwick" privately published in 1893, which also gives an insight into the Randwick of her day. I have included many other sources which I have found useful.

I have added a page of notes on the sources which may help to explain apparently missing entries or conflicts. If you would like contact me with queries or if you have sources which you would like to add to the site, please use this e-mail link.

Finally, remember that these transcriptions may contain errors. Always check with the originals
